Trying the impossible!!!

We are tying the impossible with kate. We are trying to get her to stop sucking her thumb! It is hard and really heart breaking. We got thumb on, its a nail polish sort of thing that burns your mouth when you suck your thumb. Jake tried it and said that it does burn. She would just keep it in her mouth and you could tell it was burning her but she was not giving up. She kept sucking and sucking, but now she is doing pretty good during the day. At first is was a real struggle trying to put that on her thumb. Now she is sad but lets us put it on. She tries really hard to not suck it. She is doing great!!!! If we can get it down to just at night then we are headed in the right direction. If anybody has any success stories let us know!!!

Good Luck! Our boys were binky boys...so I don't have any advice.

Oh, I wish I could help! I tried for years to Kayd to quit. I was constantly reminding her to take her thumb out of her mouth. The nail polish stuff did nothing for her. She just chewed it off. Then, she got hand, foot and mouth disease and her poor throat hurt so bad she completely stopped after that. That is how Landen stopped too. So, good luck!

That is HORRIBLE!! Let the poor girl suck her thumb! Hehehehe!! My parents tried the same stuff on mine, but after a while you just get used to the burn and then its not that bad. I sucked my thumb until I was 10 and I figure I saved my parents thousands of dollars because I was the only child that didn't need braces. Something to think about. Good Luck! (Katelyn don't give up on that thumb.)

My kids have never liked thumbs or anything, but my little sister did. She sucked her thumb till she was almost 7 and my parents tried everything it was not until she broke her arm that she quit. So you could try that ha ha ha. I am just kidding but gook luck.

You can check with your dentist. They have something called a dental fence. It is "installed" at the roof of their mouth and won't let them suck. My nephew was 5 and they had it installed (his had a ball on it) and it stopped the habit immediately. Good Luck!!

Good luck with that! I sucked my thumb unit I was 15! I remember everyone trying to make me quit and I will tell you it didn't work until I did it one night on my own. My mom would put magic stuff on my thumb and I would just wash it off, I had a retainer build that had prongs on the top of it, I would just take it out at night. My advice is to just let her decide on her own!

Oh good luck. If you figure it out, let me know. We have a finger-sucker over here that just licks the stuff off as well. Determined little gal.

We stayed with Kate and Tagg last night while Lindsay went to an Enrichment mini class. Kate was awesome and did not suck her thumb once, even when she got hurt and was crying. This is a big accomplishment for her. WAY TO GO KATE!! I love all of you!
